Significant optimism Nuggets’ Michael Porter Jr. could return in March, agent says

There is significant optimism that Michael Porter Jr. will return sometime in March, Porter’s agent, Mark Bartelstein, told The Denver Post on Sunday.

“There’s a very good chance he could be back if he continues to progress,” Bartelstein said. “He’s checked every box and is getting stronger each and every day.”

Porter, who underwent back surgery Dec. 1, is working toward on-court contact, which could come in the next week, he said.

Nuggets coach Michael Malone was dismissive of the news when asked about it prior to Sunday’s game against Portland.

“I would say don’t listen to those reports,” Malone said. “They didn’t come from me, they didn’t come from Tim Connelly, they didn’t come from anybody within the Denver Nuggets, so I would say, be careful what you listen to and what you read.”

The Nuggets, thanks to the MVP-caliber play of Nikola Jokic, have continued to surge even without Porter or Jamal Murray. Entering Sunday night’s game against Portland, the Nuggets had won five in a row and seven of their last eight.

ESPN first reported a March timeline for Porter’s return.
